I haven’t been doing any painting lately. It’s generally because I get frustrated at not having the skills to do the things I want to do, and of course I can’t improve if I don’t work on anything. It’s a vicious cycle I guess.
Several weeks ago my friend suggested we set some time aside each week to work on our own creative endeavors. This seemed like an awesome idea to help me bitchslap my muse and get something done for a change. This is just a portrait study (photo referenced) but I think it’s a good step towards churning out more interesting pieces. Took about 3 hours maybe.
WOO BALD GIRLS!
Ok… this is sort of a cheat entry because I didn’t make it specifically for my blog. I decided to submit it however, because I want to start giving Bag of Bees some love again. The idea is that this will kick start my motivation a bit and I’ll start submitting something here at least once a week. As for this particular image, it’s some World of Warcraft themed fan art of a female troll. Much of the female troll art I see is very “cute” or “pretty”. The fierce, tribal nature of the trolls is oft neglected, so I wanted to let a little more of that shine through.
In case some of you were wondering why I haven’t had an update in several days, it’s because my hard drive decided to crap out on me. I just now got the new one installed. I am still in the process of installing all of my applications though, so it might still be a day or two before I get a new painting up!
This started out as fabric practice, which is a bit odd seeing as I didn’t spend that much time on the cloth. Oh, and trees sprouted out of the doodles – big surprise!
I decided to do a study of my anatomical arch nemesis – the foot. My understanding of the way a foot works beneath the skin is pretty limited, so it came out less structured than I would have liked. There is a bit of blobbiness going on. That’s the point in practicing though, right?
Someone I know mentioned having a dream about lava flowing into water, and it inspired me to paint this. It took me about an hour and a half to do.
Hands and feet are both very difficult for me to paint, so I decided to do a quick hand study tonight. Done in maybe a half an hour or so. I’ll probably do more of these – and some feet ones as well.
I downloaded some new Photoshop brushes the other day and decided to play around with them a bit. A tree tends to sprout when I’m tinkering. The lighting in this is kind of wonky, but I think the colors are kinda fun.
Someone sent me an image of a green bird and decided I wanted to paint it. This was mainly a color and texture study – and I decided not to follow the colors of the original. I wanted it to be a little darker and more bluey. Yeah. Bluey.
I was in the mood to paint something with long, pale hair, though I ended up being rather sloppy with it in the end. This particular gal is based on the face of HannahHavoc from DA.
